In Robert E. Conot's "Judgment at Nuremberg," he calls Herman Goering "the catlike elephant."

There's a theory Goering was able to kill himself because an American guard who was a sympathizer slipped him some poison.

Feh! Would it had been a quart of castor oil. Amazing how easy some of these guys got off.

The US still wasn't all that pro-Jewish when WW 2 ended. US anticommunism has a longer tradition than US anti-fascism. Hotels were still "restricted" and cities had anti-Semitic real estate covenants. Sick, sad, and true.

Another reason the Christian conservative lie of the US as a "Christian nation" holds no water. For centuries, the US persecuted Catholics and Jews with the same ferocity associated with persecuting blacks and new immigrants.

It doesn't help when we're accusing them of "crimes of humanity" yet the Nazis are citing Native American reservations as inspiration for its foreign policy. Nostalgia and Tom Brokaw make it hard to address these questions. History isn't as clear-cut as a journalist shilling a book of oral history.

I've been reading Jacques R. Pauwels' THE MYTH OF THE GOOD WAR.
Some pretty revealing stuff about the American power elite, lend-lease, selling oil indispensable to Hitler's campaigns in 1940 and 1941, etc.

As that little German guy used to say in Rowan and Martin's LAUGH-IN: "Verrrry Interresting ..."
